User Reviews about Horizon Evolve SG Compact Treadmill
I've had this treadmill for about a month now, and I'm very pleased with it. It's good quality, easy to set up, simple to use, and very good for walking or light jogging. I positioned it in front of my TV, and use it regularly. My only complaint is that the treadmill is very difficult to move. The company's videos posted online make it seem as though you can wheel it around your apartment or throw it under your bed with little difficulty. Although it does have wheels, they are fixed, which makes it very difficult to position under a bed or maneuver around corners or through doorways. For this reason it would not be practical to store this under a bed or in a closet if you actually want to use it very often. This treadmill is definitely more "compact" than standard versions, but just don't kid yourself about it's portability. -- (4.5 Stars) Love it, but it has a few minor flaws...
I got this treadmill a week ago. The shipping service was wonderful-the treadmill was delivered exactly when it was scheduled. It did come damaged (the display is cracked), which was disappointing. This damage does not impact the performance of the machine and I don't want the hassle of returning it, so I will deal with it. I weigh 250, and this machine is able to support me both walking and light jogging. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase, especially given my tiny apartment. If you have ample space, I would suggest a higher quality machine with an incline option. But this machine will get me through the Minnesota winter:) -- More Pros than Cons
This compact treadmill is a great option for use at home, with ease of use and storing with sturdy construction. A quiet motor and smooth tread allows you to hear the television or have a conversation. Not quite small enough to fit under a bed, but stands easily next to a wall. -- Great home exercise option
First - shipping was horrible! I read other reviews beforehand, but now I can tell you in person that the company used by AMAZON (in the vernacular) - sucks. I would GLADLY PAY AMAZON a fee to ENSURE that the product would be received in good condition. Here's the story: first the product was shipped from AZ. I expected it to arrive somewhere in the Seattle/Seattle-south area. Instead it ended up North of where I live to be delivered by some out-of-the way final shipper. I notified them that if they came with a tractor-trailer, they would not be able to make delivery due to the 180 degree turns on the access road to the ridge line area where we live. No response. Then on the morning of expected delivery, a phone call from the truck driver who was about 15 miles away, saying we received your FAX, but I have a tractor-trailer...and basically what do YOU (me) want to do? It was raining quite heavily. My only choice was to hitch up the utility trailer to my vehicle and drive seven miles to a convenient point of transfer to take on the box. When I first viewed the box, it was in shambles. Packing tape (by the last shipper - the firm delivering it now) was now added at both ends to hold the flaps down. On the bottom were two holes where the two front treadmill legs protruded. And a tear in the box that revealed a cracked portion of the custom styrofoam packing. I asked if I could open the box to observe if there was any damage. Reply: Only if I signed the receipt. Seven miles, raining, hassles... I chose to accept the box in hopes that the styrofoam packing protected the contents. Basically it did, but after unpacking I discovered a crack on the left side of the motor housing. It does not detract from the performance of the product; but the product did not arrive in mint condition. And that's what you and I expect.
Essentially, when AMAZON says FREE SHIPPING, you're playing the lottery - at least in this case. As I accepted the product from the shipper, I believe I would have to pay to repair the housing cover.
As to the Horizon Evolve treadmill, it fits our needs very well. I'm 72 and in very good health, but excerise here in the rainy Pacific NW during winter must be done indoors. I need to exercise but don't need 10 mph speeds other treadmills offer. The 4.0 mph speed that's part of the Evolve's weight loss program is as fast as I can walk; it's just shy of running. And I opted for a level platform machine rather than a machine with selective incline. It is set up in our spare bedroom/guest room where it can be easily stood up against the wall when appropriate. The treadmill's size was one of the positive considerations in getting this product; after looking at treadmills in various stores, the Evolve model is both attractive (the silver color is so much nicer than pure black for other treadmills)and size manageable. I only had to adjust the belt a bit and it has been working well. My wife and I began using it daily on January 2, 2010.
I will be contacting the company, though, regarding the pulse meter. It wavers all over the spectrum. Just one
eExample: while engaged in faster speed, the meter was reading lower and lower (67 bpm)- just not so! I expected that this item certainly would be accurate for the price being paid for the treadmill. And wonder if the company might bear some responsibility should a customer rely solely on this pulse meter. At least they could provide a "CAUTION: Pulse meter may not work properly." But, then, they are damaging their own product quality.
Would I get this model again? Yes because it fits our needs, but less-than-enthusiastic yes because of the headaches of (1) shipping (2) discovered damage after the fact, and (3) poor quality of an item essential for proper use - pulse meter. (sorry I can't publish pictures of the shipping carton in this review) -- Horizon Evolve Treadmill - purchased from AMAZON
