Mat is thick enough to protect carpet, but not so thick as to be unwieldy. With some effort, I was able to cut a hole in it using my carpet knive, to allow my heater vent to be open. Plastic seems to be pretty good quality. -- nice solid mat

I am using it for my elliptical trainer in a room with carpet. Compared with other mats I can find in Sears/Sports Authority/Dick's Sporting Goods, the quality of this mat is far better than the rest. -- Excellent quality
